Loving us some Bloglovin

When we entered the world of blogging Nicki and I had no idea what a wonderful place it is. We are now happy to say we have blogging friends all over the country and yes, even internationally. They have been a great source of encouragement as we launched our book and besides that we have great fun communicating and chatting with them. So if you have a blog make sure to pop it on into the hop. We promise you'll make new friends, learn a lot and have fun!

Now a note from Jenny Melrose our fabulous Bloglovin host/diva:

What's Bloglovin' you ask? Well, only the greatest way to keep track of the blogs that you love. With the discontinuation of Google Friends Connect (GFC) for non-blogger blogs like myself, I decided that I needed to find another way to keep up with all of my favorite blogs that are not hosted by blogger. I stumbled upon Bloglovin' and I am in love! It is very similar to Google Reader, in that you can see the beginning of the post and the first picture attached to the post. Plus, Bloglovin' automatically updates your posts. Another added bonus is there is a Bloglovin' application for IPhone and Android devices. Woohoo! Like I don't spend enough time reading blogs. Now it's a simple touch. Love it! In order to participate in this hop, you need to have Bloglovin set up for your blog. You can find a super easy tutorial here. I promise it'll take you less than 10 minutes and you'll thank me down the road.

There’s only a couple of rules:
1. Please follow your hosts! They are the 1st nine blogs linked.
2. You MUST link up your Bloglovin' url to participate, NOT your blog.
3. Post our button for the blog hop on your page to promote the fun. You can grab the button from my sidebar. The more the merrier so shout outs about the party on Twitter or Facebook would be greatly appreciated.
If you're interested in co-hosting next month shoot me an email at russej10{at}gmail{dot}com. I also have some sponsor spots still available for October, which you can find here. Alright, so let's have some fun and mingle! Please remember to ONLY link up your Bloglovin URL.

Google lessons on bowing and curtseying

Last night my 4 year old appeared for dinner adorned in full Princess regalia. She greeted the table with, "Hello subjects." Her brother and sister did not think this was quite as funny as her father and I did.

Anyways, during dinner a long discussion began on the proper way to curtsey or bow to important people. None of us were quite sure of the rules and so of course we utilized all parents go to textbook tool GOOGLE! What we found was funny and I thought I would share it with you.

Proper rules for bowing/ curtseying (No surprise the word curtsey is derived from the word courtesy).

Bowing

Here are the rules for bowing, unless you happen to be Mr Darcy. Then just showing up in a room and brooding is ok.

Half bows are used for those who are considered to be your equals. It's like a nod or bend of your head.

For full bows the lead leg should be slightly in front of the body, the arm corresponding to the lead leg should be folded across the waist, and the other arm held across the back, palm facing inward. Keep your back straight!

A full bow to the floor shows great respect as does the length of time you bow.

To show disrespect, don't follow any of the above rules and make sure your palm faces the bowee and wave your arms around. My son was really good at the impolite bow, um yeah so moving on.....

Curtseying

A half curtsey is almost like a polite nod with the head down.

To curtsey politely stand with your lead foot in front, legs slightly overlapped. Have the hands clasped behind the back, in front of the skirt or folded across the waist. Bend at the knees, back straight (you may need to adjust your legs for this). For added politeness, incline or bow the head.

You may lift your dress out away from your body, but don't go too far. It is impolite to lift your skirt or leave your hands at the side of your dress. Lifting your skirt shows your ankles, which is improper. My 4 year old runs around naked so she didn't understand why showing her ankles was impolite.

How far you curtsey to the ground shows how much respect you have towards the person you are curtseying as does the amount of time you spend in the act.

My girls kept falling over. Maybe you will have better luck with yours.

Ok now that we all know the rules, who's ready to meet some royalty?

A new prince or princess?

I figured it is about time I announced to all of our lovely readers and friends that the Humphries family will be welcoming a new addition in March of 2013. The little prince and the princesses in our family are all very excited and each have their personal votes for what the gender of the baby is.

This Queen Mommy feels terribly sick and hopes to soon be able to return in a much larger capacity to her blogging friends. Oh Pinterest how I miss thee, but the food pictures that are usually so delectable aren't quite working out for me right now.

Thank you to all of you for your incredible support the last several months as Nicki and I have gotten the book off the ground and launched our blog. Oh and before I forget, which is quite frequently these days, we have two wonderful events coming up in a couple of weeks in the Tucson area.

Princess Rules

Rebekah Grace getting a little help from an older Princess
What exactly are the rules for being a Princess? As a mother of  two Princesses this is a discussion that has taken place quite frequently in our home.

Some of the suggestions from my girls for rules a Princess should live by have been hilarious, triumphant, flops, successes and just plain endearing.

I was visiting a message board recently and was intrigued by the following question a visitor posed, " I have watched many Princess movies and have read quite a few Princess books. Could someone please give me a list of 10 princess rules to live by?"

Well yes mam I believe I can. First and foremost ALL girls are princesses no matter what! This is an important rule my Princesses live by.

Secondly, when Nicki and I were in the beginning stages of writing our book we used our real life experiences with our own Princesses and a lot of our Mommy and Daddy friends stories, ideas and thoughts on raising Princesses. We were told repeatedly that everyone likes a Princess with manners who is well meaning even if sometimes her plans don't quite work out.

So in answer to your question message board visitor, we have a list of very important rules for Princesses of all ages and you are most welcome to check them out in Rebekah Grace The Practically Perfect Princess's first adventure.

Some might think rules for a preschool Princess wouldn't apply to an older Princess. Perhaps, but, when my first Princess was in preschool she came home with a copy of a song that she was learning for a program. I think the world would be a different even happier place if we all followed the simple rules I read in the song.

Play fair * don't hit people * put things back where you found them * clean up your own mess * don't take things that aren't yours * say you're sorry when you hurt somebody * wash your hands before you eat * flush * learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some * take a nap every afternoon * when you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands and stick together!

What are some of the rules your Princess has come up with? We would love to hear about them!
